Save the dates!
There are the busy seasons at BLS, and then there are the seasons when we are busy – and we run a major sailing regatta. In 2017 there’s a lot going on; we wouldn’t have it any other way!
So here are some dates to pin wherever you keep important dates… On your fridge door? In a good old fashioned diary or Filofax? Or in your phone?
The coloured links within the text lead you to more information.
April 19 & 26
Special Volunteer Training nights dedicated to sharpening up our procedures for Wednesday Evening Open Boating and Sailing Sessions (which commence a little later this season, on Wednesday 3 May). After the 26 April session there will be a BBQ at the cabin – starting around 20:00 (8pm for landlubbers).
The first Wednesday evening Open Boating and Sailing Session of the season. Sessions continue each Wednesday throughout the summer until early September, when it just gets too dark to do it!
Pre-booking is not necessary – just turn up for a taster session with warm clothes at 7pm at our Cabin just inside the gates of Carrickfergus Sailing Club.
Carrickfergus’s popular Try-a-Boat event returns to Carrickfergus Marina between 10am and 2pm on Saturday 13th May when, supported by RYA Northern Ireland, we will be combining with Sea Cadets Carrickfergus and members of the Marina’s Berth Holders Association to offer a wonderful opportunity to try out the joys of boating and sailing under the new name – Push The Boat Out.
Pre-booking is not necessary – just turn up with warm clothes at Reception at the Sea Cadets building opposite Brewers Fayre between 10 and 2.

Belfast Titanic Maritime Festival. We must have been well behaved last time as we’re delighted to have been asked back. It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase Sailability. We need plenty of volunteers on duty to make it work – it’s always lots of fun.
President’s Cup and Hansa 303 Irish Championship. This is our main big event of the season, partly a repeat of our highly successful running of the 2015 Hansa 303 Championship – with the addition of the prestigious President’s Cup inter-province event to be sailed in Hansa 303s, 2.4mRs, Hawk 20s, and Squibs. Again we hope for many volunteers to make light work. The event web pages are at: www.pch303carrick.org
In addition, our RYA Recognised Training Centre will be running a wide selection of training and learning courses, and our Saturday morning Volunteer Training Sessions only ever stop for Christmas and New Year – and very occasionally for bad weather.
