This versatile craft arrived mid June 2011 and since then has really proven her worth – and turned heads. Sea Rover was funded by the People’s Millions Big Lottery Fund with help from a tremendous telephone voting effort by all of our supporters. She is specially designed to allow full wheelchair access via a drop down ramp which means that the wheelchair user does not have to leave their wheelchair to get out onto the water. With safety in mind there are wheelchair anchoring strips in the deck, and she can be helmed by a wheelchair user. Sea Rover allows Belfast Lough Sailability to offer full on the water support for our disabled sailors and gives them the opportunity to be accompanied by a carer/family member/friend. Being accompanied by a familiar face is of great benefit to young and vulnerable participants as they venture out into Belfast Lough. Sea Rover also gives our volunteers a vital, stable and wheelchair accessible platform from which to coach and provide increased vital safety cover for all on the water activities.
