Our Hawk 20 keelboat, Alexander, quickly became a firm favourite after she was generously donated to Belfast Lough Sailability by the McConnell/ Radcliffe family in memory of their dad, Alexander.
She is such a sweet, well behaved sailing boat with plenty of space for six, making her ideal for tuition, with two instructors and four trainees for example.
For our volunteers who learned to sail using the Hansa 303’s joystick, the use of a traditional tiller took a wee bit of getting used to!
Now that Alexander has been joined by sisterships, Tamarind and Arica, at least two Hawk 20s are in almost constant use at any one time during the summer for our Saturday and Wednesday sailing sessions, and the local Tuesday and Thursday handicap racing.
