Thomas Bruton’s Adventure Journey

On Tuesday 6 December, our friend Thomas Bruton will be presented with the President’s Award Gold Gaisce by the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins – five years after learning about the Award from Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteer Alex Palmer at The Lighthouse Trust, Donaghadee, and working through the Bronze and Silver Gaice. Thomas had attended Sailability sessions with us before and decided to join our Halifax Foundation for Northern Ireland supported 2016 Summer Scheme at Carrickfergus last July for the Award’s Adventure Journey module. A trio of BLS 2.4mRs

Our 2.4-Metre (2.4mR) Para World Sailing Class fleet has risen to three with the debut of Mathilde, who waltzed onto Belfast Lough recently to join sisters Peg and Skye – allowing us to expand our racing fleet and capabilities going towards the 2017 Presidents Cup and beyond.

Mathilde’s arrival coincided with the exciting news that as part of World Sailing’s drive to get sailing back into the Paralympics for 2024, the 2.4mR has survived a re-jig of proposed Paralympic classes Continue…

RYANI awards for BLS volunteers

BLS volunteers featured strongly in the RYA Northern Ireland annual awards at Royal Ulster Yacht Club, Bangor recently. With 13 prize winners, 90 guests and five Olympians in attendance, the prestigious ceremony, which took place on Friday November 11th, recognised successful sailors, rising stars and volunteers who have made a positive difference to the sport over the last year. We had an amazing evening on Saturday 5th November in Belfast City Hall. The High Sheriff, Alderman Jim Rodgers O.B.E., had kindly nominated Belfast Lough Sailability as one of his chosen charities and granted us the use of the magnificent Great Hall to hold our Volunteer Recognition Awards Dinner.  Continue…

Calling all BLS members, family and friends: we want you to join us for a once in a lifetime event in the magnificent Belfast City Hall.

We are delighted to announce that Councillor Jim Rodgers, O.B.E., High Sheriff of Belfast City Council, has nominated Belfast Lough Sailability as one of his chosen charities.
