ARRIVAL & LAUNCHING (posted Thursday 30 July 2015)

Go to the BLS Contact page to see where we are, and for directions. In your GPS, use destination: Carrickfergus Amateur Rowing & Sailing Club, Carrickfergus,  BT38 8BE

For those who prefer analog navigation, turn towards Belfast Lough from the A2 highway roundabout that is just west of Carrickfergus Castle (you can’t miss IT!); this road is called Rodger’s Quay, with Sainsbury’s supermarket on your right and eventually The Swift Bar & Restaurant on your left; road swings 90 degrees right; take first on the left, with Premier Inn on your left. Drive straight ahead and through the gates of Carrickfergus Sailing Club. We’ll direct you from there.

At Carrickfergus Sailing Club – lower level – enter at seaward side – opens at 17:30 Friday. Outside like this would be nice… but with the summer we’re having…

LaunchingBoat Launching

Launching is planned – probably from the “Opie Pontoon” in the Old Harbour – from 17:00 Friday, but Volunteers will be on site from 09:00, so there is a good chance of earlier launching.

The ideal launching time for both Hansa 303s (for pontoon gangway angle) and any support RIBs (if weather conditions dictate that launching RIBs into the Old Harbour at the sheltered Castle slipway – where tidal height is an issue – makes more sense than the Carrickfergus SC slipway – where tidal height is not so much of an issue) is HW +/- 2hrs, so c.10:00 – 14:00 Friday. But don’t worry, later than that is fine too for Hansa 303s, and most probably for RIBS.

Over the weekend, some flexibility will be required to work in harmony with ongoing dredging work at Carrickfergus Marina and Harbour, but there is plenty of space for all!

We’re looking forward to welcoming you to Carrickfergus!
