Competition sailing returns to BLS

Competitive sailing for people living with disabilities returns to Carrickfergus over the weekend 12-13 August when we partner with Carrickfergus Sailing Club and Carrickfergus Marina to host the prestigious inter-province President’s Cup regatta incorporating the Hansa 303 Class Irish National Championship, sponsored by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Abbey Insurance, Carrick Marine Projects, JP Corry, Survitec Group and Translink Staff Charity.

Sailors from near and far will take part, with four teams each with twelve sailors representing Connaught, Leinster, Munster and Ulster, sailing in four sailing boat types including the Paralympic 2.4mRs, racing on Belfast Lough for the first time.

The President’s Cup was devised in 2014 by past International Federation for Disabled Sailing President and Paralympian John Twomey as a friendly competition to encourage people living with disabilities to experience competitive sailing.

Great memories of the last major sailing event we ran in 2015 – the highly successful Hansa 303 Irish Championship – are still fresh; we are looking forward to renewing old friendships and welcoming newcomers to the delights of sailing on Belfast Lough and the fantastic facilities offered by the Carrickfergus Maritime Partners, and the town.

More information can be found at the event website: www.pch303carrick.org – and watch out for updates at our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter social media channels.
