The President’s Cup & Hansa 303 Irish National Championship

Over fifty skippers and crew representing Connaught, Leinster, Munster and Ulster enjoyed fabulous conditions on Belfast Lough off Carrickfergus over the weekend 12-13 August competing for The President’s Cup and Hansa 303 Irish National Championship for sailors with disabilities.

A trio of BLS 2.4mRs

Our 2.4-Metre (2.4mR) Para World Sailing Class fleet has risen to three with the debut of Mathilde, who waltzed onto Belfast Lough recently to join sisters Peg and Skye – allowing us to expand our racing fleet and capabilities going towards the 2017 Presidents Cup and beyond.

Summer Scheme

Our Halifax Foundation for Northern Ireland supported 2016 Summer Scheme at Carrickfergus between 18 and 22 July will offer free of charge fully accessible sailing and motor boat handling sessions on Belfast Lough to people living with disabilities, and create volunteering opportunities – including for those working towards the Duke of Edinburgh and President’s Award Schemes. The Paralympic Pathway

We were delighted to host a Royal Yachting Association Northern Ireland run, SportNI sponsored weekend training camp at Carrickfergus Marina and Harbour on 23 & 24 January for coach/ volunteer training towards The Paralympic Pathway. A group of sailors from Belfast Lough Sailability represented Ulster over the weekend of 22 and 23 August in the Sailability Ireland Presidents Cup inter-provincial disabled sailing championship at the Royal Irish Yacht Club, Dun Laoghaire. A fun day on the water

BLS volunteers had fun day afloat and ashore on Saturday 22 August at Carrickfergus Sailing Club’s Annual Regatta. In the morning, four BLS Hansa 303s raced in their own class alongside the CSC Toppers, and in the afternoon the BLS Hawk 20s Alexander and Tamarind joined the handicap class. Continue…
