Earlier this week the HELEN MARY R, a sail training boat from Morvargh Sailing Project, Plymouth, called into Carrickfergus Marina for a few nights before rejoining their #ASPIRE360 Challenge voyage around Britain by sailing from Belfast Lough round Mull of Kintyre to Gigha and Oban.
Crewed by young trainees, HELEN MARY R had sailed up from Plymouth with stops in Milford Haven, Dublin and Belfast before stopping over in Carrickfergus. BLS Chair, Paul Bunting, and Hon Sec, Anne Taylor, were invited aboard and treated to some really warm hospitality by these remarkable young people.
The ship’s log entry for their first day in port is fun!
Thanks to all the crew of HELEN MARY R, it was nice to meet you and we wish you safe circumnavigation!
Check out this great video of shipboard life on their leg from Dublin to Belfast…
And this one featuring Carrickfergus and their voyage from here to Oban via the Isle of Gigha…
